William Brownlee in Carnwath, Scotland

William Brownlee, (of whom we treat) was born early 1800's at Carnwath, Scotland married Jenny Bell (District Nurse), Carnwath, Scotland. (Jenny Bell? Or Janet Ross?)

They had Issue:

1. Robert Brownlee born 1854, Scotland migrated to New Zealand then to Australia married Elizabeth Morrison, born 1862 Renfrewshire in Scotland, daughter of James Morrison and Janet Rattray. Worked as a schoolteacher. Robert had a drapery store at Minmi and Killingworth.

They had Issue:

1. William Frederick Brownlee, born 31 July 1888 in Australia, married Muriel Isabelle Symes, born 12th February 1897, daughter of Hugh Symes, born 1875 and Isabella Screamgeour Logan, born 1877.   It is understood that Isabella Screamgeour Logan's father was sometime captain of a windjammer called "Royal Tan", a vessel that took a group of disgruntled N.S.W. colonists from Sydney to the coast of Equador or Columbia (more likely the latter). There are possibly descendants of this settlement still there today. There are some reports that indicate his daughter had accompanied him around Cape Horn on one of his voyages before her marriage at 18 when she settled in Australia.  

They had Issue:

1. Robert Hugh Brownlee,[1] born 11 May 1934 in Australia married Madeline Charlton, born 30 April 1938 in Australia. 

They had Issue:

1. Stephanie Mary Brownlee[2], born 14 October 1968.

2. Iain Patrick Brownlee, born 17 March 1970.

Robert Brownlee and Elizabeth Morrison also had:

2. Elizabeth J. Brownlee born 12 May 1886.

William Brownlee and Jenny Bell also had:

2. William Brownlee, born 1856 at Carnwath, Scotland, migrated to New Zealand then Australia. Worked as a coal miner and lived some time at Withers Street, West Wallsend (had chest trouble), died 10 August 1938 (buried Sandgate). William was married at Minmi N.S.W. in 1886 to Janet Pillans, born 9 January 1865 (family Bible), or 9 December 1865 (I.G.I.), Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland), died 25 December 1940 (buried Sandgate). Janet was the daughter of William Pillans born on 21 November 1837 at Tashieburn in Scotland.  Died March 1914.  Buried at West Wallsend.  Married on 21 September 1860 to Janet Muir, born 22 October 1836, died May 1909, buried West Wallsend. Arrived in Sydney aboard "Florida" 6 December 1885.

 They had Issue:

1. Janet Brownlee, born N.S.W. married Jack Ogilvie. 

They had Issue:

1. Jenny Ogilvie.

2. Lila Ogilvie.

3. Charlie Ogilvie.

William Brownlee and Janet Pillans also had:

2. Mary Brownlee, born Joadja N.S.W. (Christmas Eve).  Married Les Griffiths. 

They had Issue:

1. Gwen Griffiths.

2. Colin Griffiths.

William Brownlee and Janet Pillans also had:

3. Bella Brownlee, born N.S.W. died c1980.   Married Bill Robertson. 

They had Issue:

1. Bill Robertson. Bill was a buyer for Coles and retired in 1982 - possibly in Melbourne. 

2. Jenny Robertson.

William Brownlee and Janet Pillans also had:

4. William Brownlee, born Minmi, N.S.W. in 1893. Employed as a schoolteacher, died 1965.  Married firstly to Alice Amy Moorcroft, born Sydney, N.S.W. in 1890, died in 1937. They had Issue:

1. William Brownlee, born 1921, died 1922.

2. Kenneth George Brownlee[3], born 1923, married in 1960 to Enid Mary Howard, born 1928.   Some time worked at Newcastle, 1982 had a motel at Coolah.  Good tennis player, good scholar.  They had Issue:

1. William Howard Brownlee, born 1962.

2. George Mark Brownlee, born 1966

3. Ann Louise Brownlee, born 1967.

William Brownlee and Alice Amy Moorecroft also had:

3. Alison Ruth Brownlee, born 1925 died 1979.

4. Gwenda Margaret Brownlee, born 1928.

William Brownlee, of whom we treat also married, secondly Elizabeth Allan Brownlee1 born Whifflet, Scotland in 1905 died 1988.  (See daughter of Archibald Brownlee and Elizabeth Hamilton.)

William Brownlee and Janet Pillans also had:

5. Annie (Queen) Brownlee born N.S.W. Married Harold Clapham.

They had Issue:

1. Betty Clapham.

2. Mary Clapham.

William Brownlee and Janet Pillans also had:

6. Grace Brownlee, born N.S.W. married Jack Smith. 

They had Issue:

1. Jack Smith, a teacher, married Betty. They had four children, one an air pilot, and a daughter who was a teacher.  Lived some time at Westleigh.

William Brownlee and Jenny Bell also had:

3. Jack Brownlee, born Scotland,migrated to U.S.A.

4. Frederick Brownlee, born Scotland, migrated to New Zealand.

5. James Brownlee, born Scotland.

6. Thomas Brownlee, born Scotland, migrated to U.S.A. and returned to Scotland. Married Ann McCullough, of Carnwath about 1875.  

They had Issue:

1. William Brownlee, born Scotland 1876.  Drowned at age of 18 in Scotland.

2. Archibald Brownlee, born in Scotland 1880.  Married in 1904 to Elizabeth Hamilton of Old Monkland, Scotland.  

They had Issue:

1. Elizabeth Allan Brownlee[4], born 1905 at Whifflet in Scotland. Married William Brownlee, born 1893 at Minmi N.S.W., son of William Brownlee born 1856 at Carnwath and Janet Pillans born 1865 Scotland.

2. Ann Brownlee, born 1909 at Whifflet, Scotland. Married Athol Gilmour, ex A.I.F., at Wallsend. 

They had:

1. Ann Gilmour, born 1940.

Thomas Brownlee and Ann McCullough also had:

3. Elizabeth Brownlee.

7. Belle Brownlee, born Scotland.
